A Planning Map of Advanced EIP System

Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) is not only the face and symbol of an enterprise but also an important point of contact for provider and users. EIP have become an essential aspect of an enterprise’s E-development. However most of the portals of enterprises, still merely display the company’s history, its visions and mission statement, its core activities, product information, contact details etc. This not only fails to provide quick response to the demands of users and provider but also fails to consider the employees’ needs of learning and efficient communication links within the organization. In addition to the lack of sufficient expertise and experience, the core reason for the problems mentioned above is lack of a complete EIP system planning map. In order to address such inadequacies, this research attempts to arrange major dimensions and items of EIP system, through analyzing relevant documentation, referring to British Standards 15000 and utilizing of Plan, Do, Check, Action management cycle, Furthermore, a number of local IT specialists are interviewed and statistics Frequency Analysis used to establish the importance of each item; the Fuzzy Delphi Method is used to examine the framework and causal relation and ensure the stability of the establishment process; also with some toolkit such as Focus Group Interview to verify the responsibilities of each items. Finally, the result of these activities is the proposed EIP system planning map. To verify and confirm the findings of this research, four enterprises are invited to participate in an experiment. The results are as follow. The organisation that used an EIP system based on the map suggested by this research had the highest level of satisfaction. It was followed by the enterprise that only selected the main items. Further down was the enterprise that considered the map as a major reference foundation. At the bottom was the one that did not incorporate the findings and proceeded in accordance with the ideas of the senior management. Therefore the importance of the EIP system planning map, suggested by this research, in the developing of an EIP had been established.
